Hybrid Connectors – The Ultimate FAQ Guide

Choosing the right hybrid connector starts with determining which types of connections need to be integrated into a single interface. This FAQ guide answers common questions about INTE-AUTO LV + Fluidic, LV + Coaxial, and LV + HV hybrid connectors and helps you select the right configuration for your application.
1. What Is a Hybrid Connector?

A hybrid connector combines different types of contacts within a single connector interface. INTE-AUTO hybrid connectors integrate low-voltage electrical contacts with fluidic, coaxial, or high-voltage contacts, allowing multiple connection functions to be handled through one compact connector.

This can reduce the number of separate connectors, save panel space, and simplify equipment and cable connections.

Figure 1 INTE-AUTO Hybrid Connectors

2. What Types of Hybrid Connectors Does INTE-AUTO Offer?

INTE-AUTO provides three main hybrid connector configurations:

  • LV + Fluidic – low-voltage electrical contacts combined with fluidic contacts
  • LV + Coaxial – low-voltage electrical contacts combined with coaxial contacts
  • LV + HV – low-voltage contacts combined with high-voltage contacts

Different contact arrangements are available within each category to meet different equipment requirements.

3. How Do I Choose Between LV + Fluidic, LV + Coaxial, and LV + HV?

The correct configuration depends on what your equipment needs to connect through the same interface.

Choose LV + Fluidic when electrical signals or power need to be combined with pneumatic connections.

Choose LV + Coaxial when low-voltage electrical connections and coaxial signal paths are required through the same interface.

Choose LV + HV when low-voltage control, sensing, or auxiliary circuits need to be combined with high-voltage circuits.

4. What Is the Difference Between B, K, and P Series Hybrid Connectors?

The main differences are housing construction and environmental protection.

SeriesHousingProtection
B SeriesMetalIP50
K SeriesMetalIP68
P SeriesPlasticIP50

B Series is suitable for indoor and protected environments where a rugged metal connector is preferred.

K Series provides a metal housing with IP68 protection for applications requiring waterproof performance.

P Series provides a lightweight plastic alternative for applications where IP50 protection is sufficient.

5. What Information Do I Need to Provide for an LV + Fluidic Hybrid Connector?

To select an LV + Fluidic hybrid connector, please provide both the electrical and fluidic requirements.

For the electrical section:

  • Number of LV contacts
  • Working current and voltage
  • Wire gauge or cable specification

For the fluidic section:

  • Number of fluidic contacts
  • Gas or liquid medium
  • Working pressure
  • Tube inner diameter
  • Tube outer diameter
  • Operating temperature

Also provide the required IP rating, connector size if known, and equipment interface requirements.

6. What Information Do I Need to Provide for an LV + Coaxial Hybrid Connector?

Coaxial performance depends not only on the connector but also on the cable and complete signal path. Please provide:

  • Number of LV contacts
  • LV current and voltage
  • Number of coaxial contacts
  • Required impedance
  • Operating frequency
  • Coaxial cable model
  • Cable dimensions
  • Complete cable structure
  • Required IP rating
  • Cable length

Providing the coaxial cable datasheet is recommended when requesting a connector or complete cable assembly.

7. What Information Is Required for an LV + HV Hybrid Connector?

For an LV + HV hybrid connector, the low-voltage and high-voltage circuits should be evaluated separately. Please provide the number of LV and HV contacts, working voltage, current, required insulation performance, cable specifications, operating temperature, and environmental requirements.

Because high-voltage requirements can vary significantly between applications, INTE-AUTO evaluates the complete electrical requirements before recommending an LV + HV configuration.

8. Why Should You Use Bend Relief for Your Hybrid Connectors?

Sometimes the cable bends at the ends of the connector’s plug, resulting in poor transmission of the data, signals, current or fluid.

There is a chance that a permanent distortion occurs into the cable due to bending for a very long time.

To avoid such difficulties, you must order a Hybrid Connector with variant and use a bend relief at the end of your connector’s plug.

Figure 7 Bend Relief

9. How Do I Choose the Correct Hybrid Connector Size?

Connector size depends primarily on the type and number of contacts that need to be integrated, together with the electrical, coaxial, or fluidic requirements.

Other factors include:

  • Cable outer diameter
  • Tube dimensions
  • Available panel space
  • Plug or receptacle configuration
  • IP protection
  • Installation method

If you provide the required hybrid configuration and technical specifications, INTE-AUTO can help determine the appropriate connector series and shell size.

10. What are the Features of the Hybrid Connector?

An Integrated Connection That Combines Different Media to Flow Seamlessly Through One Connection

Instead of having multiple connectors, INTE-AUTO gives you this high-density, smart design with flexible configuration inserts. It provides combined transmission of various media— including data, current, fluid, and air— without compromising any single one.

Integrating all your needs into one product saves you money as you won’t need different kinds of connectors. You also save space and avoid errors through wrong connections.

The 2B and 3B series features a P1 fluidic contact commonly applied in medical and dentistry practice. A monotube-type connector is utilized for use with fluid, air, or inert gas.

The Connection, Security, Reliability, and Convenience of the Push Pull Hybrid Connector

The push pull self-latching hybrid connector provides the user with a quick and easy way to mate connectors by simply pushing the two components together. Once connected, the two parts cannot be pulled apart unless the outer release sleeve is pressed.

The latching mechanism is strong and can withstand vibration, shock, and high tension. It is guaranteed to provide flawless performance even up to the 6000th mating. Therefore, it is regarded as a top-rated quality product.

A Mated Protection Index of Either IP50 or IP68

Tolerance to dust, moisture, and other particulates is extremely important in connectors. These products are used in virtually every application including aerospace, military, medical, and industrial. This means the device must protect the integrity of the connection despite outside utilization, extreme pressures, and wet conditions.

An IP50 rating indicates complete sealing against dust and moisture, while an IP68 rating provides complete dust, particulate, and water immersion protection.

Different Alignment Keys to Choose From

The hybrid connector can be aligned with either a G, A, B, or C key. Whichever key option you choose will allow for completely aligned, error-free, blind mating with each connection. Operators won’t make the mistake of cross-mating with similar-looking devices.

Cable Outer Diameters Can Range from 4 to 11 mm

The hybrid connector can accommodate various cable thicknesses of up to 11 mm. INTE-AUTO is known for quality custom cable assemblies where you can provide the cable or we can source it from a trusted supplier. Just send us your specifications and we will make it happen for you at very affordable rates.

A Rugged, Chrome-plated Brass Housing with PPS Insulator

PPS insulation is made up of Polyphenylene Sulfide Plastic. It is a mechanically strong, chemically resistant, and flame resistant thermoplastic. Both the rigid housing and the electrical insulation ensure complete protection and stability for the hybrid connector.

360° Screening for Full EMC Shielding

Full shielding is essential to prevent frequency noise or other electromagnetic signals from interrupting the current one, or from the current signal from leaking out.

11. Should I Choose an IP50 or IP68 Hybrid Connector?

Choose according to the operating environment and required protection level.

B Series and P Series IP50 connectors are suitable for equipment used in indoor or protected environments.

K Series IP68 connectors should be considered when the connection requires enhanced protection against water and environmental exposure.

The required IP rating should be evaluated together with the complete connector and cable assembly.
