Industrial Connectors - The Ultimate FAQ Guide

Selecting the right HR Series connector involves more than matching the number of contacts. Connector size, current and voltage, termination method, cable specifications, environmental protection, mating structure, and data transmission requirements should all be considered. The following FAQs cover the key technical considerations for selecting INTE-AUTO HR10, HR25, and HR30 Series connectors and cable assemblies.
1. How Do I Choose Between HR10, HR25, and HR30 Series Connectors?

The right series depends on contact density, connector size, environmental protection, electrical requirements, and cable or equipment design.

HR10 is a compact, high-density circular connector series available in 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, and 20-contact configurations. It is suitable for compact equipment requiring quick push-pull mating and multiple contact arrangements.

HR25 is a miniature, high-density push-pull series available in 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, and 20-contact configurations. Its metal shell provides reliable grounding and EMI protection, making it suitable for compact equipment with higher-density signal connections.

HR30 is a compact, lightweight waterproof series available in 3, 6, 10, and 12-contact configurations. It is particularly suitable when waterproof performance, lightweight construction, quick push-pull mating, and outdoor durability are required.

2. What Contact Configurations Are Available for HR10, HR25, and HR30?

The available contact counts vary by series and shell size.

SeriesAvailable Contact Configurations
HR104, 5, 6, 10, 12, 20
HR254, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20
HR303, 6, 10, 12

The number of contacts should not be the only factor when selecting a connector. Current, voltage, cable size, connector dimensions, termination method, mounting style, and environmental requirements should also be considered.

3. How Do the Push-Pull Locking Mechanisms Differ Between HR10, HR25, and HR30?

All three series provide quick push-pull mating, but their locking structures differ. HR10 uses a single-action push-pull lock. HR25 uses straight push-in mating with a built-in locking mechanism and releases by pulling the plug release collar. HR30 uses a one-touch push-pull lock with secure 360° locking.

The mating mechanism and compatible connector pair should therefore be confirmed according to the specific series and part number.

4. Which Series Should I Choose for Waterproof Applications?

HR30 should be considered when waterproof performance is a key requirement.

The HR30 design provides IPX7 and IPX8 waterproof performance when mated:

  • IPX7: immersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes
  • IPX8: immersion in 2 meters of water for 14 days

HR30 is also designed for long-term outdoor use and has passed a 2,000-hour sunshine weather meter test for UV durability.

Waterproof ratings should always be confirmed for the exact connector configuration and mating condition rather than assumed for all HR Series connectors.

5. Can HR Series Connectors Be Used for High-Speed Data Transmission?

Yes, selected HR Series configurations can support high-speed data transmission.

HR10 and HR30 documentation includes configurations supporting Cat5e (1 Gbps) Ethernet. However, actual transmission performance depends on the pin assignment, cable specification, shielding, cable length, and cable assembly construction.

For Ethernet or other high-speed applications, provide the required data rate, cable specification, pin assignment, shielding requirements, and cable length so the complete connection can be evaluated.

6. What Termination Options Are Available?

HR10, HR25, and HR30 Series connectors are available with male or female contacts, while the available termination method depends on the series and specific connector model.

HR10 Series: Male and female contact configurations are available. The applicable termination method should be confirmed according to the specific connector model.

HR25 Series: Pin or socket contacts can be selected for plugs and receptacles. Termination options include solder and crimp contacts, while PCB mounting is available for selected receptacles.

HR30 Series: Male and female contact configurations are available with solder, crimp, and through-hole termination options, depending on the connector configuration.

For cable assemblies, solder or crimp contacts can be selected according to the wire and production requirements. For equipment-side connections, selected PCB or through-hole receptacles allow direct circuit-board mounting.

When replacing an existing HR series connector, both the contact gender and termination method should be confirmed before selecting the equivalent INTE-AUTO model.

7. How Do I Select the Correct HR Series Connector for My Cable?

The connector and cable should be selected as a complete system rather than independently.

Important cable parameters include:

  • Cable outer diameter
  • Number of conductors
  • Wire gauge
  • Shielded or unshielded construction
  • Current and voltage
  • Cable flexibility
  • Operating temperature
  • Required data transmission performance

The cable outer diameter must also match the connector’s cable clamp or strain-relief structure to provide secure cable retention.

For custom cable assemblies, providing the complete cable datasheet is recommended.

8. How Do HR Series Connectors Prevent Incorrect Mating?

Mechanical alignment features help ensure that the plug and receptacle are correctly oriented before mating.

HR30 uses a multi-key guide system to prevent mis-insertion and also provides white mating marks on the plug and receptacle for easier visual alignment.

Other HR Series connectors also use polarization and mating structures appropriate to their designs.

When several similar connectors are installed on the same equipment, the complete mating configuration should be reviewed to reduce the risk of incorrect connection.

9. Why Would I Choose HR25 for a High-Density Industrial Connection?

HR25 combines a small connector diameter with relatively high contact density.

The series provides:

  • 11 mm maximum plug OD: 4, 6, or 8 contacts
  • 13 mm maximum plug OD: 12, 16, or 20 contacts

It also uses metal shells, providing a secure ground connection between the mated shells for applications requiring EMI protection.

This makes HR25 particularly useful when equipment requires multiple signal contacts within limited installation space.

10. How Do I Identify the Correct Replacement for an Existing HR Connector?

Do not select an equivalent based only on appearance or number of contacts.

Please check the complete original part number and, where possible, provide:

  • HR10, HR25, or HR30 Series
  • Complete HR series part number
  • Plug, receptacle, or jack
  • Number of contacts
  • Male or female contacts
  • Termination type
  • Cable outer diameter
  • Mating connector part number
  • Drawing or connector photos

INTE-AUTO can use this information to identify the corresponding connector configuration and confirm compatibility before ordering.
