Three Stepped Insert Connector Series

INTE-AUTO provides three stepped insert connector series — S Series, E Series, and 2C Series. All three feature the characteristic stepped / half-moon insert design and push-pull self-latching mechanism, while each series is designed for different installation and environmental requirements.

S Series — Standard Stepped Insert Connectors:

Designed for indoor and protected environments, the S Series provides a compact and reliable solution for general signal and power connections where waterproof sealing is not required.

E Series — Waterproof Stepped Insert Connectors:

Designed for applications requiring higher environmental protection, the E Series combines the stepped insert design with a sealed connector structure for outdoor, wet, and demanding environments.

2C Series — Short-Size Stepped Insert Connectors:

The 2C Series features a shorter connector body for equipment where installation depth and available space are limited, while retaining the stepped insert and push-pull connection concept.

Stepped Insert Connector FAQs

Find answers to common questions about S Series, E Series, and 2C Series stepped insert connectors, including series selection, contact configurations, environmental protection, installation space, replacement, and custom cable assemblies.
1. How Do I Choose Between S, E and 2C Series?

Start with the operating environment and available installation space.

Choose the S Series for standard indoor or protected equipment where waterproof sealing is not required. Choose the E Series when the connector needs additional environmental protection against water, moisture, or dust. Choose the 2C Series when reducing connector length or installation depth is a priority.

After selecting the series, confirm the contact configuration, electrical requirements, cable size, mounting method, and mating interface.

2. What Is the Difference Between S Series and E Series?

The main difference is the environmental protection requirement.

The S Series is intended for indoor and protected applications, while the E Series provides a sealed connector solution for applications requiring waterproof protection.

Both use the characteristic stepped / half-moon insert concept, so engineers can select the appropriate series according to the equipment’s operating environment.

3. When Should I Choose the 2C Short-Size Series?

Choose the 2C Series when the equipment has limited installation depth or when a shorter connector body is required.

Before selecting 2C, confirm the available installation space, contact configuration, cable diameter, mating interface, and environmental requirements to ensure that the short-size design meets the complete application requirements.

4. How Do I Select the Correct Contact Configuration?

INTE-AUTO stepped insert connectors are available in 2 to 18 contacts.

Selection should not be based on contact count alone. Engineers should also consider current, voltage, wire gauge, cable diameter, signal or power requirements, connector size, and available installation space.

If you provide these parameters, INTE-AUTO can help identify the appropriate contact configuration.

5. Can Stepped Insert Connectors Be Used for Blind Mating?

Yes. The stepped / half-moon insert provides mechanical orientation that helps guide the plug and receptacle into the correct mating position.

This makes the design useful for equipment where the connector interface is difficult to see or access directly, as well as applications requiring frequent connection and disconnection.

6. What Should I Consider When Installation Space Is Limited?

First determine whether the restriction is caused by connector length, panel depth, rear clearance, or cable routing direction.

If installation depth is limited, the 2C short-size series may be appropriate. If cable routing is the primary issue, a right-angle connector configuration may provide a better solution.

Providing an equipment drawing or available installation dimensions allows our team to evaluate the most suitable configuration.

7. Can INTE-AUTO Replace My Existing S or E Series Connector?

Yes. INTE-AUTO provides corresponding S Series and E Series stepped insert connector solutions.

For replacement projects, send us the existing part number, photo, drawing, datasheet, mating connector, or sample. Our team will check the series, shell size, contact arrangement, contact gender, mounting configuration, cable size, and mating interface before recommending the corresponding INTE-AUTO model.

8. Can You Provide Stepped Insert Connectors with Complete Cable Assemblies?

Yes. INTE-AUTO can integrate S, E, and 2C Series connectors into customized cable assemblies.

Cable assemblies can be produced according to your connector configuration, cable type, wire gauge, cable length, pin assignment, shielding, bend relief, labeling, and equipment-side termination requirements.

9. What Information Should I Provide to Select the Correct Connector?

For a new equipment design, provide:

Operating Environment · Number of Contacts · Current & Voltage · Wire Gauge · Cable OD · Plug or Receptacle · Mounting Method · Available Installation Space · Required Quantity

For a replacement project, send:

Original Part Number · Connector Photo · Drawing · Datasheet · Mating Connector

Our team can then determine the appropriate S Series, E Series, or 2C Series configuration and recommend the corresponding INTE-AUTO model.
